No patron data was said to be compromised in the attack on the Westchester Library System network.

The Westchester Library System network, which services many area libraries, last week was the target of a ransomware attack. WLS released a statement following the attack stating that security measures already in place on the network helped prevent the worst consequences of the attack and confirmed that “no patron data was compromised as a result.”

WLS also noted in the statement that due to the nature of the public computers in libraries, they were easier to exploit than other library equipment, and will remain shut down until a member of the WLS team can perform necessary restoration tasks.
