Mario Lancia of Katonah died at his home on Sept. 9. He was 85.

He was born March 12, 1935, in Ripi, Frosinone, Italy, to Angelomaria Lancia and Maria Giustina Cortina. At 23 he immigrated to the U.S. and settled in the Bronx, where he worked in construction as a laborer throughout the New York City area. In 1958 he married Cosimina (Mimi) Tomassi.

The couple moved to Katonah in 1968 and raised two children. When Mr. Lancia retired in 1997, the couple began to spend winter months in Sarasota, Florida.

Family members said Mr. Lancia was a passionate gardener and loved to sit around a dinner table with his family and friends telling stories of Italy. He also loved the beach and the sun, they said, and to walk with friends.

Survivors include his wife, Cosimina; his brother, Michael Lancia (Pat) of Somers; his sister, Lucia Capogna of Ewing, New Jersey; his daughter, Linda Lancia, of South Salem; his son, Steven Lancia (Margo) of Bedford; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alessandro and Pietro Lancia, and a sister, Giovannina Lancia.

A private wake was held at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah on Sept. 12, followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, also in Katonah. Interment took place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
