Cathleen M. Nielsen, a longtime Bedford resident and former employee of the Bank of New York in Bedford Village, died on July 4. She was 83.

She was raised in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx and was a graduate of St. Barnabas High School. She and her husband, Robert J. Nielsen, raised their family in Bedford Village where they lived for 55 years. She was a longtime employee of the Bank of New York in Bedford Village, which has since closed, and also had many friends in the Bedford Village Fire Department, her family said.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Robert J. Nielsen Jr. (Carolyn), her daughter, Patricia Nielsen, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Ms. Nielsen’s life will be held in the near future in Bedford Village.
