Years ago, around this time, the former editor of The Record-Review would ask me about Pound Ridge by saying, “Hey, anything going on in Mayberry?” It was a reference to “The Andy Griffith Show,” a popular television series from the ‘60s where nothing of particular importance happened in their small, sleepy, rural town.
These days, August in Pound Ridge is more active than back then. It does have elements of Mayberry, but is punctuated with expressions of “local” that keep it alive. Now that camp is over, a lot of families are away on vacation. On the flip side, many weekenders are here for extended stays, as evidenced by the unfamiliar faces I see in the Market.
