BikeRun draws 1,700 community members

By DON HEPPNER

The stadium stands of the Fox Lane campus in Bedford was packed with almost 400 athletes and 1,700 members of the community at the opening ceremonies of the fourth annual Bedford Central School District Elementary BikeRun held on Sunday, May 18.

The BikeRun is an athletic wellness endeavor unifying the five Bedford Central School District elementary schools — Bedford Village, Bedford Hills, Mount Kisco, Pound Ridge and West Patent — as Future Fox Lane Friends. Opening ceremonies included master of ceremonies district assistant superintendent Mark Betz along with superintendent Dr. Jere Hochman, athletic director Beth Staropoli, the board of education and a special appearance by Kit the Fox mascot.

Four-year sponsor Mount Kisco Bicycle World offered pre-event bicycle checks, discounts and donated a bike to the auction. They were also on-site providing safety checks and mechanical support. Eric and Ilene Marcos of Bicycle World look forward to this event each year. As part of the closing ceremonies, raffle chairwoman Maryann Antolino called the names of winners, who were amazed by the incredible prizes.

Special thanks also to Jessica Cambareri and Annie Bai for organizing the sponsors and the website. For more information and photos, visit bcsdny.org/K5BikeRun2014.
